The arrival of a baby is a wonderful thing to be celebrated. It is no wonder that countries all over the globe have their own traditions in doing so.
In the United Kingdom, a common substitute to the baby shower is known as ‘wetting the baby’s head’ where the father celebrates the birth by having drinks with a group of friends. In China, a baby shower is held one month after the baby is born since back in ancient times, high infant mortality rates prompted families and friends to celebrate if the baby survived over a month. In South Africa, a baby shower is called a stork party.
In the United States, the purpose of a shower is to provide gifts but whether you opt to have a co-ed shower or one just for the ladies, games can still be scheduled in so people get to know each other better and have a lot of fun in the process.
That being said, here is a list of a few games which top our charts in the fun factor.
This can be used for either a co-ed shower or one for only the girls. Ask both the mom and dad-to-be questions (without the other around!). Assign someone who knows both well the role of reading the answers aloud to the rest of the guests. Sample questions include: What do you want your child to be when they grow up? Where were you when you first heard the news?
Hand out paper plates to each guest. The goal is to draw a picture of the baby with the best sketch the winner. The catch though, is that everyone has to draw with the paper plate on top of their head! You are guaranteed to have some masterpieces with this.

This is a game guaranteed to have people in stitches. Split up your guests into teams and hand them toilet paper. Each team should have a model ‘baby’ where they are to wrap said baby in a diaper made from toilet paper. The team with the best design wins! =D

This game is perfect for foodies. Put their tastebuds to the test by gathering up to ten unique flavors of baby food jars. Number each lid and tear off the labels. Then, ask each guest to grab a spoon and start sampling! The participant with the most correct wins a prize, or bragging rights.

This is another game where you’ll have guests in giggles. Fill up baby bottles with a beverage of your choice- from apple juice to beer. Then, give each guest a bottle and on the count of three, they must tip those bottles back and start chugging to finish first!

To give guests a slight whiff of what the parents-to-be will be going through, place several types of melted chocolate candy in diapers. Be sure to have many types and consistencies of poo represented, from milky, to creamy, and the like. The diapers are then to be passed around where people will have the opportunity to sniff/ taste the centers to guess which brand of candy is represented in each. The one with the most accurate guesses wins!
