Commemorating Memorial Day

SHARE STORY:

Words can ever express enough how much we owe to the men and women who gave their lives up for the freedoms that this country has today. I grew up in other nations where such independence is still a dream and I am so thankful to be living in the United States.  This holiday in particular always chokes me up because of how meaningful it is, and how much we have to be grateful for.

Today, people are marking Memorial Day with parades and ceremonies for those who sacrificed themselves in war, along with less formal events like barbecues and gatherings with family and friends. This post is geared towards those who want to celebrate Memorial Day in a casual setting. Here are our favorite ways to decorate for the day, along with activities you can teach your children about the meaning behind this holiday.

1. Setting the Tone

Streamers or banners can instantly set the mood for the day. You can set it up with a simple banner or elevate colored streamers with string lights.

2. Determining the Tablescape

When you have something like streamers or banners which easily sets the atmosphere for the day, you don’t need much else besides  a few strong pops of color over your tablescape. In this situation, less is more!

It’s always the little things that matter. Having creative and fun aspects like these will serve to make your gathering memorable for those involved since these really stand out!

4. Dessert

Spruce up dessert to make it shine. We’ll leave the main courses like steak, chicken wings, and whatever else of your choosing alone, because those are glorious in itself.
