We have planned many events at The Nasher, but Dmeca + Anthony opted for a unique layout that we absolutely loved. Fun fact: their wedding was featured over on Martha Stewart Weddings!

Here is a little bit more about the day, in the Dmeca’s own words. She placed an incredible amount of thought into the details, which you can read more about below.

Tell us about your love story – how did you meet?

Anthony and I met in 2011 attending college at Columbia University. We crossed paths throughout the years through shared courses and similar activities, but didn’t formally meet until a classmate introduced us at a local bar in our sophomore and junior years. We became fast friends and began dating the following year. After a short period of long-distance following Anthony’s graduation and move out of state, Anthony returned to NYC where we still work and live today!

 

What was your vision for the wedding?

We both knew we wanted a small and intimate wedding with our closest friends and family members. It’s such a special day filled with so much emotion, so it was important to us to celebrate with those who know us well and have been most influential in our lives. Once we began planning, we loved the idea of juxtaposing the natural and organic elements of a garden wedding with modern, big city vibes – a subtle nod to New York City, where I was raised and where our love story began.

 

What was your favorite part of the day?

My favorite part of the day was our first look and private vow exchange before the wedding ceremony. We were able to be completely vulnerable and really take in the weight of the moment in a private setting. It was so special to have an intimate moment together before socializing and celebrating with our family and friends.

 

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

The Nasher Sculpture Center in Anthony’s hometown of Dallas is a stunning venue in its own right. Its beautiful garden has one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary art, which provided a unique and stunning backdrop to the most magical day of our lives. We were married at the foot of Mark di Suvero’s monumental steel sculpture, Eviva Amore, which translates to Long Live Love from Italian – a very fitting name!

I wanted to ensure the celebration felt like us and reflected our love story, so I took on a ton of planning and personally designed our wedding stationery, signage, and the bulk of our paper goods. We commissioned a custom watercolor wedding crest with our monogram from a talented artist, which we included throughout our paper suite and on fun elements like the dance floor. Our wedding favors were sandalwood fans to combat the Texas heat! We adorned them with hand tied satin ribbon and tags printed with our wedding crest.

Were there any sentimental moments/ items incorporated to the wedding?

One of the most sentimental moments of the wedding was my Mom walking me down the aisle. I’ve looked up to her all of my life and she is my biggest cheerleader, so it was incredibly special to share this moment with her. On my right hand, I wore Anthony’s grandmother’s ring, which has been passed down and worn by all the women in the family on their wedding day.

 

What advice do you have for other couples/brides-to-be?

Take your wedding photos before the ceremony. This will free up so much time to enjoy your cocktail hour and reception with guests.

Remember that your wedding day is about celebrating you and your spouse. During the planning process, focus on what matters to you both most. On the wedding day, spend time with each other and really soak in the moment. It might be the only time you have all the people who mean the most to you in one room!

Don’t try to take on too much and always ask for help when you need it. We worked with Keestone Events, a local wedding planner, to wrap up the final month of planning and coordinate on the day, and it was the best decision we could have ever made! Anthony and I were relaxed and worry free and had the time of our lives!
