Ivana + Steven’s wedding has been a long time coming! Tzahhia, one of our Dallas wedding planners, was the planner for their big day at D’Vine Grace. It was a party from start to finish. Everyone was so excited to see each other, and it was a reunion for many of them, who had flown in from all over to make it to their nuptials!

From my first meeting with Sarah and Tzahhia, I just knew that I would be in great hands!! They were very welcoming and constantly reassured me that they would do everything they could to ensure my special day went as smoothly as possible! Although I ended up having to postpone my wedding until this year, Tzahhia made sure to stay in communication with me over the last year in a half. I chose the month of coordination package; however, she was always available to help me anytime I needed her throughout the wedding planning process.

I absolutely loved the fact that Tzahhia was very organized, innovative, and paid great attention to every single detail. I also, appreciated how Tzahhia took notes every time we met and was able to give great feedback while asking all the right questions to ensure all areas of the wedding planning process were covered. She frequently communicated with all my vendors and always kept me in the loop. She was quick to handle any vendor inquiries and review the vendor contracts to ensure everyone was adhering to their part. This really did place my mind at ease throughout the wedding planning process.

Furthermore, Tzahhia never hesitated to help me with last-minute things that came up and always offered words of encouragement especially as my stress levels increased closer to the wedding day which I really appreciated!
Tzahhia and her assistants on my wedding day were awesome! Even when we ran a little off schedule, she was able to act quickly and make any small changes necessary to keep the day moving. I just don’t know what I would have done without her!

My experience with Keestone Events has truly been amazing!! Thank you!!

You can read more about Ivana + Steven’s story and their planning process below:

Steven and I met my senior year in college a few months after he had just transferred to the university. I remember seeing him on the fourth floor of the library and thought he was way overdressed for “study time”. But it so happened he had just come from church and wanted to go right into his studies.

He asked me what I was studying and once I responded we learned we were both taking the same science course at the time. From there we just had the best conversation. We talked about everything! From school, our goals, family, music, movies, and more! It felt like I was talking to someone I knew for years. Something about him made me feel so comfortable.

We exchanged numbers but I gave him the wrong number at first, but I promise not on purpose haha. I had recently got a new number and accidentally gave him my old number out of habit. But thankfully Steven was smart enough to double-check by calling the number before I left, and we resolved it quickly. After that day we began dating, and Steven admitted to me that he saw me on campus his first week of school months before we officially met and was determined to make me his girlfriend.

He knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I laughed and told him he was crazy and couldn’t be serious since he didn’t even know me at that time. But years later I realized he was serious!! And I am so happy about it!

What was your vision for the wedding?

My vision for the wedding was to have a very elegant wedding with close family and friends. I wanted all our guest to feel special and catered to as if they were a guest in our home. Furthermore, I wanted our wedding to be a time where our guests can just simply enjoy themselves and be in an uplifting environment. Also, everyone that knows me knows that I love everything glamourous and classy, so I definitely wanted to showcase some of those aspects in the wedding from the theme of our wedding to the wedding colors and even the venue choice. Overall, I just wanted everyone to have fun as they celebrated our big day with us.

What was your favorite part of the day?

I had so many enjoyable moments throughout the wedding. However, if I were to choose a favorite part it would be the moment, I walked down the aisle in the venue’s chapel. I remember feeling so nervous seeing all eyes on me as the chapel doors opened. However, once Steven and I locked eyes on each other as I proceeded to walk down the aisle, I felt so much more at ease. His presence alone comforted me without him even having to say a word. Also, just knowing that we finally made it to this point after having to delay our wedding due to the pandemic and other difficult circumstances that arose, I was finally marrying the love of life!!

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Since I am Nigerian American and my family is from Nigeria, we wanted to make sure we incorporated many of our cultural traditions into the wedding. We served various homemade African food appetizers during our cocktail hour which our guests loved! Furthermore, my husband and I wore traditional handmade African attire to our reception. We also, included additional African practices throughout the wedding reception to allow guests to experience our vibrant culture.

Were there any sentimental moments/ items incorporated to the wedding?

Yes, my super awesome wedding coordinator Tzahhia, suggested Steven and I do a couple’s last dance in our venue’s ballroom with just us two. We did not realize the wedding day would go by so fast. So, this was a very sentimental time for us as where we were able to have time alone to reflect on our special day and enjoy the bliss of our new union.

I know that planning a wedding can be extremely stressful. However, make sure to always communicate how you feel to each other and others involved in the planning process as well. Don’t be afraid to delegate task to help with feeling overwhelmed (unfortunately, I was guilty of not doing this and I wish I would have done it more). It is absolutely ok to take a step back from wedding planning when needed to make sure that you both are continuing to grow in your relationship.
Please take care of yourself and rest as much as possible. Also, know that no matter how much or how long you plan, things may not always go as planned on your wedding day. However, keep in mind that the wedding is only for one day, while marriage is a LIFETIME !
So, never forget the most important part of this wedding is the fact that you get to marry your best friend and love of your life creating a union that will last forever!!
