Katie + Nico were another couple that had their wedding plans drastically change due to COVID-19. They had already planned a wedding in Mexico but sadly had to cancel due to the pandemic. They pivoted by having a smaller wedding in Dallas, with close friends and family instead. Nico is from Peru and Katie wanted to surprise him with a Peruvian wedding cake that was bright and colorful. Bronwen Weber), you are so talented! It just may be one of the cutest and most fun cakes we have seen!

Kristin was the lead planner that day. Fun fact – she has been taking the lead on intimate weddings in 2021 for our company and taking everything in stride! Below is the wonderful review that Katie left for her!

“I felt like I was in great hands from the very beginning at our very first zoom meeting with Kristin! My mom and I continue talking about how stress-free the wedding day was because of Kristin and her team. I look back on the wedding planning after she came on board as our “month of” planner, and it really became a much more enjoyable process for us.

She had excellent ideas, vendor suggestions, and was completely on top of every detail, including details I would have never thought about. Her spreadsheets were extremely organized, and it was great to have a to-do list for me to tackle weekly as we got closer to the wedding. She also did a great job at keeping my husband and I’s priorities in mind when it came to our wedding, and it truly turned perfectly. I had so much more fun on my wedding day than I ever dreamed possible!”

A bit more about Katie + Nico’s story:

Tell us about your love story – how did you meet?

We initially met at Parkland hospital briefly back in 2016 and reconnected the following year while Nico was completing his Infectious Disease fellowship at UT Southwestern. We dated in Dallas for nearly a year, before we dated long-distance when Nico moved to Boston to do an additional year of fellowship at Harvard. We took a whirlwind trip to Peru for 3 weeks before we moved to Indianapolis. We got engaged on Christmas Eve 2019, and bought a house in Indy in March 2020, which was where we spent most of the pandemic!

What was your vision for the wedding?

We initially planned to have a relaxing and tropical wedding in Riviera Maya in April 2020, but we had to cancel those plans due to COVID-19. We switched the location to Dallas and decided to view our wedding as a celebration with all of our favorite people that we had been separated from for over a year due to the pandemic. We picked a wedding that had a lot of character and a beautiful view of the Dallas skyline, so we were happy to let it speak for itself as far as the decorations went.

What was your favorite part of the day?

The ceremony was our favorite part. We asked one of our close friends to be our officiant, which made the ceremony even more meaningful to us. In Peruvian weddings, the bride and groom each pick a close friend or family member to give a toast during the ceremony, and we incorporated that into our day.

Nico and I both work in Infectious Diseases, which made 2020 a very challenging year for us. Like many other couples, we had to pivot quite a bit with wedding planning. Nico’s family is in South America, but somehow we managed to have nearly all of our favorite people come to Dallas for our wedding.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Our wedding cake was a surprise for my husband, who is Peruvian. Bronwen made a beautiful cake with bright colors, bulls carved with chocolate, and a chalk drawing of Machu Picchu.

I was also lucky enough to have a very crafty sister-in-law, and she helped with all of the details and the larger things too. She designed a logo for us, champagne flutes for our favors, our welcome sign, and countless other details like personalized masks.

What advice do you have for other couples/brides-to-be?

My biggest piece of advice is to find a planner who understands your priorities. Kristin totally changed my perspective on wedding planning, and I was able to let go and just focus on the things that mattered to us. The best part- We were able to enjoy the entire day and night without any stress, and could focus on celebrating with all of our favorite people in one place!
